The Bombay High Court on Tuesday refused to interfere in the Maharashtra government`s decision to convert the Mayor`s bungalow here into a memorial for late Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray, noting it does not find any valid ground for the challenge against the policy decision, reported news agency PTI. A bench of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Sandeep Marne, while dismissing a bunch of pleas, said it cannot sit as an appellate authority over the decision taken by planning experts except in cases where there is a "gross violation" in the planning norms. Police have arrested a man from Bihar and seized more than 3 kg of charas worth Rs 31 lakh from him in Thane city, an official said on Tuesday. The narcotic was seized on Monday (June 30) in the Kopri area after the Crime Branch laid a trap, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Amarsingh Jadhav told reporters.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday announced a special investigation team (SIT), headed by a senior woman officer, to probe the alleged sexual harassment of a minor girl at a coaching class in Beed. As reported by PTI, NCP legislator Chetan Tupe has also raised the issue through a point of information in the state assembly. Tupe, while concerned about the incident, said that two people had been arrested and remanded to three-day police custody. He said the person protecting the accused needs to be unmasked.

In a tragic road accident early Tuesday morning in Gorai, two young men lost their lives after their speeding bike, carrying three people, skidded and crashed into an electric pole. The third rider survived but sustained serious injuries. The deceased have been identified as Shivam Jha (27) and Rehan Chaudhary (22), both residents of Sion Koliwada. The injured survivor, Dinesh Thevar, is currently undergoing treatment.
