Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar are likely to witness thunderstorms along with lightning, with wind speeds ranging between 50-60 kmph. According to the weather latest forecast, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) will experience light to moderate rain initially, but the intensity is likely to increase by the weekend, with potential for heavy rainfall at isolated locations. A yellow alert has been declared in these regions for the next three days, starting Thursday.
Intense spell of monsoon activity is anticipated this week in Maharashtra. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued widespread alerts across the coastal and inland districts. The state will experience light to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in the next five days, starting Wednesday.
The coastal regions of Maharashtra, such as Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg are on orange alert later in the week. These regions are expected to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall, with extremely heavy downpours in isolated regions.
The ghats of Satara and Kolhapur are especially vulnerable. An orange alert has been declared in these regions, with the authorities flagging the possibility of torrential rains along these ranges, which could cause localised flooding and travel disruptions.

Districts such as Nashik, Jalgaon, and Dhule will face moderate thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds up to 50 kmph. While rainfall intensity will vary, most areas are expected to receive light to moderate showers, providing much-needed relief from the dry spell earlier this month.
In Pune and Ahmednagar, gusty winds and heavy rain at isolated spots are expected between June 12 and 14. Rural areas are advised to secure harvests and avoid open fields during active thunderstorms.
The Eastern and Central regions of Maharashtra districts including Aurangabad, Beed, Latur, and Nanded will continue to see thunderstorms with gusty winds (40-60 kmph), light to moderate rain, and isolated regions are expected to experience heavy downpours. Farmers are advised to store harvested produce and avoid chemical sprays during this period.
Vidarbha regions like Akola, Amravati, Nagpur, and Chandrapur districts are under continuous storm alerts with wind speeds likely reaching 60 kmph. These areas could witness short-term power outages, damage to weak structures, and crop losses due to hail or high winds.
The IMD has warned citizens against taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms and urged people to unplug appliances during lightning spells. Farmers are advised to complete harvesting, provide support to tender saplings, and avoid irrigation or pesticide application. Cattle should be moved to safe shelters.
As the monsoon advances, Maharashtra is expected to receive continued rainfall, bringing both relief and risk. Authorities urge the public to remain updated through official channels and take necessary precautions.
