The MIDC Police in Mumbai have arrested seven Bangladeshi nationals -- one male and six females -- for illegally entering and residing in India in violation of the Passport (Entry into India) Rules 1950, Foreigners Order 1948, and Foreigners Act 1946, officials said.
According to the police, the women were brought to India from Bangladesh illegally by luring them with various job offers and were subsequently forced into prostitution.
"Acting swiftly, Senior Police Inspector Dr Shashikant Bhosale, along with the Anti-Terrorism Cell (ATC) of MIDC Police, detained a suspect identified as Bayazid Ayub Sheikh from the MIDC area. During interrogation, and upon verification of his identity documents, it was confirmed that he was a Bangladeshi citizen.
Further questioning revealed that Sheikh was in contact with other Bangladeshi women residing in the Andheri area. A police team moved to JVLR Link Road, Andheri East, where two suspicious women were found. Their identification revealed that they too were Bangladeshi nationals, and they were subsequently arrested.

The investigation expanded to Pune, based on Sheikh's statement that several women had been sent for prostitution work there. A crime detection squad led by PI Yash Palve, Assistant PI Dhanashree Thimbar, and others, raided Room No. 02, Chavan Building, near Dugad Farm House, Katraj, and detained five more women. It has been revealed that one of these women already had a case registered at Nagpada Police Station.
Police officials have confirmed that the accused, Bayazid Ayub Sheikh, was actively involved in illegally bringing Bangladeshi women into India, particularly to Mumbai and Pune, and placing them in various jobs, including prostitution.
All the arrested individuals are currently in judicial custody. The investigation is being led by Police Sub-Inspector Mahadev Jagtap, who is further probing the nexus and possible trafficking operations, said DCP Datta Nalavade of Zone 10.
He further stated that the investigation is ongoing to identify the broader network and additional illegal infiltrators.
